COVID Trends?

Since 2003, Big Spring School District has experienced a steady decline in its in-person student population, with a total reduction of approximately 24% by 2023. This trend, which began before the COVID-19 pandemic and continued afterward, is largely attributed to regional population decline and the increasing enrollment in charter schools.

Scores down, Students Down, Staff Up?

more staff less students lower scores

Despite a nearly 13% increase in staffing—from approximately 310 to 350 employees—Big Spring School District has seen a 24% decline in student enrollment from 2003 to 2023. At the same time, student academic performance has continued to decline. With fewer students, more staff, and stagnant or falling outcomes, the tough question must be asked: Are we effectively aligning our resources to improve student success?
